Over time, the polycarbonate plastic of headlight lenses becomes clouded when continuously exposed to the elements. Lens clarity is essential for adequate light illumination and nighttime visibility. Using a DIY technique restores the lenses as needed. Regardless of the technique chosen, expect to spend approximately 20 minutes on each headlight.

Wash the vehicle with mild soap and water making sure to pay special attention to the headlights. Tape around the headlight lenses. Combine a small amount of toothpaste and baking soda. Apply the mixture to each lens and scrub with a microfiber cloth. Remove the paste and rinse. Apply a UV protective product to the dried lenses. UV protective coatings are essential to preventing further lens damage.

Restoration kits are available wherever automotive products are sold. The packages typically contain various grits of sandpaper, cleaning/polishing compound, application cloths, and UV protective coating. Simply use the products as instructed by the kit manufacturer.
